Artist Statement

Photography is my medium of choice.  While I was enrolled in the Commercial Art Program at Vincennes University I took my first photography class.  I became interested, but it was only a mild interest.  It was not until I started at Ball State University and was required to take the Photography I class that I fell in love with the medium.  I was introduced to new techniques and processes while building upon what I had already learned in that very first class.

Photography can be several things at once, sometimes it is easy and other times it is hard, sometimes it is labor intensive and other times it is not, sometimes it is predictable and other times it is unpredictable.  I think that that is one of the reason I like the medium so much it changes every time you push the button to release the shutter.  I am constantly experimenting with something or another from film to technique and processes as well as settings in the camera and computer.

I started off using film, developing it myself when I could, and printing in the darkroom.  Today I have migrated to digital photography, but my interest has not changed.  I still love to experiment, I just use the computer more, and I still photograph the people, places, and things that I find interesting.
